RESOURCE

A brief narrative description of the journal article, document, or resource.
This study provides an evaluation of the national and state level educational environmental placement trends for students, ages 6-11 or 12-17, with learning disabilities (LD), emotional disabilities (ED), mental retardation (MR), or speech and language impairments (SLI) in the decade following implementation of the Regular Education Initiative (REI) promulgated in the late 1980s. REI called for greater access to general education curricula for students with disabilities and led to changes in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the ideology of inclusion. Results reveal overall small, but statistically significant, increases in the use of more inclusive environments since the REI, but the extent of changes varied at the state level, between age groups and among disability categories. Students with speech language impairments or learning disabilities were placed in general education environments at a higher rate than those identified as emotionally disturbed or mentally retarded. Analysis also indicated that the percent of students with disabilities receiving services outside general education more than 60% of the time remained relatively consistent from 1989 to 1999. Finally, the study found temporal relationships between changes in placement rates and the implementation of federal reforms directed toward improved educational outcomes for students with disabilities through greater inclusion in general education.

PLACEMENT TREND

The placement trend.
mood this year at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, (IIM-C), is only a reinforcement of similar trends at other major management institutes: Fewer foreign offers, lower turnout of technology companies, thinner pay packets and more jobs in marketing.
Over the past few years, the biggest paymasters had been foreign companies followed by Indian technology majors.
Last year, out of 215 students, 84 were offered jobs on foreign soil. This year, hardly 20 of the 250 graduates will get jobs abroad, according to highly placed sources at IIM-C.
Companies like Boston Consultancy Group, which last year recruited around 10 students, have offered jobs to only three students of IIM-C.
“Last year technology companies like i2 and iNautix offered large number of jobs for the US and European market. This year these two companies did not turn up to recruit students,” said one of the students.
Companies that did offer foreign postings are Barclays Bank, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Lehman Brothers and consultancy firms like McKinsey.
For the record, the placement division of IIM-C refused to divulge anything on corporate recruitments on the ground that the facts were not tabulated so far and it will take another three days to highlight the trends.
But people familiar with the placement of IIM-C students are of the opinion that major sectoral changes have taken place in the corporate recruitment trends.
While last year systems and finance were the top two sectors in terms of offers and acceptance, this year corporates have offered more jobs in marketing compared with the other two.
“Though IIM-C is known for its systems and finance specialisation, for the students more options were available in marketing rather than the other two,” said a student of the institute.
In terms of average salary, while last year the average Indian salary was around Rs 7 lakh per annum, this year sources in the institute estimated the salary to be less than last year’s figure.
Kolkata-based software company Globsyn Technologies, however, has recruited two students from IIM-C. Says Mr Bikram Dasgupta, chief executive officer of Globsyn Technologies, “The placement scene is not that good in IIM-C this year. Many of the companies which had turned up for recruitment last year were not present this year.”

Job Hunting for Freshers

Every year, year after year, I get utterly hit by the fresher season. Nothing has changed over the years. They remain as lost.Have we forgotten that job hunting for freshers comprises of decision making at a gun point? From a world where marks are the ultimate decision maker of choice, we push them into choosing career paths that the majority cannot translate into a picture of reality. Why do they have to learn the hard way?Reality is about asking what, how and why? But where are the answers to be found? I go to some of these career orientation programmes in schools. And I wonder who is going to tell them that travel jobs are not about traveling, nor hotel jobs about food, and neither are IT jobs about green cards! And if you want to believe that it is all crap, I suggest you go to a career counselor who deals in foreign education. Well, then you get to know the reality after paying some good money not only to them, but to some foreign Government. If you cannot translate reality into a career environment then the old fashioned way of trial and error may be more practical. It may take time to learn but is definitely cheaper and you have the luxury of wasting time to realize that all career choices are reversible or at least convertible. And what about the girls who are still wondering about the perfect choice – one that combines bread winning with marriage and kids? Well, you tell her there is no such thing! I really don’t have the guts

The Job Market and Jobseekers

Considering the job market conditions today, there is an urgent need for jobseekers to address the issue of improving their visibility.
Over the past decade mass -mailing resumes has become a way of life. As a marketing strategy it has low merit in showcasing any candidate. But as a concept it holds the promise of the ultimate shortcut in job hunting. Few can resist the seduction.
The vacancy volume has hit a new low. The squeeze on jobseekers has made the competition levels escalate. Not only has the pie become smaller, one does not get to sometimes even smell the piece.
google_protectAndRun("ads_core.google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
The first line of attack to the problem is to stop job-hunting by proxy. We have to dig our hands into this messy business without the comfort of resume mass mailing. Today’s job market conditions calls for aggressive marketing. Like climbing on the rooftop and yelling – Here I am, as good as good can get.
Perhaps it is also time to throw that old mindset out of the window. The one about finding jobs, which says if you search hard enough, it will be found. Not only do we need to research the nuances specific to our industry but also identify the placement firms specializing in our field of work.

PLACEMENTS

Objective Placement Through Job Analysis Employers--and employees--often have preconceived ideas about jobs. Ask three people to describe the most important requirements for being successful in a particular job and you are likely to get three very different responses. Similarly, employers may have preconceptions about the capabilities of handicapped persons. Mistaken assumptions about the skills required to perform a particular job or about an individual's limitations can result in inadvertent discrimination against workers with disabilities. How does an employer know whether a worker, who is disabled can perform a particular job? Often, if the individual is referred by a rehabilitation agency, a worker profile is provided that outlines the prospective employee's medical condition and limitations, as well as his or her physical and work skills. This information, although valuable, does not answer an employer's question of whether the individual will be able to perform the job successfully. One way that an employer can answer this question is by having a written job analysis. Such an analysis provides a useful means for objectively measuring the fit between a worker with a disability and a given job.Job AnalysisThe technique of job analysis has been a proven tool in industry for many years. A job analysis is not a job description; it goes well beyond the one- or two-page subjective "description" of a particular job. A job analysis systematically identifies the specific tasks involved, the frequency of the tasks, and their importance to successful job performance. It identifies specific background experience and skills that an applicant may need in order to learn, for example, how to operate equipment used in the job. In addition, the prevalent working conditions and the worker skills and behaviors critical for successful performance of the job are spelled out. From the job analysis, an employer can develop a worker profile of the skills, characteristics, and experience that are required for successful job performance. This profile can be used in recruiting and interviewing to match applicants--disabled and non-disabled--to jobs for which they are qualified. By making job qualifications relevant to job performance, a job analysis can help eliminate preconceptions about what is and is not required. It can also be used to determine what, if any, modifications can be made in the job and to uncover working conditions that should be changed for safety or environmental reasons.

Job Placement: How College Students Gain an Edge in the Marketplace

The present state of the economy has created fierce competition in the job market. However, recent college grads have a unique advantage in career placement.
We see ads from jobs in the Help Wanted section of newspapers every day that require 5-10 years of hands-on experience coupled with a Bachelor's or Master's degree. Hiring people who have the qualifications and the job experience save the company valuable time and money. How is a person supposed to go to college and have 5 years of experience at the same time? This is the question which plaques many Americans daily. While young adults are studying at these universities, it is vital that they take advantage of the job placement center offered by the school at the end of their freshman year. There is stiff competition in today's job market, and college students have the jump on everyone in terms of landing internships from various companies. They could receive two to three years of invaluable job experience from summer internships, and the odds of landing a permanent position after graduation are definitely in their favor. This is how a person can gain job experience while studying their field at the same time. Job recruiters look for college students who have started the interview process as early as the beginning of sophomore year. Employers don't want people with no experience; degree or no degree. College seniors should land jobs before graduation so that they won't have to compete with hundreds of thousands of people for a select few jobs.

Five Ways to Find Job Openings

Looking for work can be a full time job in itself. Knowing where to look for job openings and which employment resources are available to you is only half the battle. Plus, you don't want just any job; ...you want that dream position, and learning where to find the hottest openings takes effort, creativity and a little luck. While the following job resources may sound simple, combining them together in a mass "market yourself" campaign will prove successful.1. Newspaper Classified AdsNewspapers are often the first place people turn when they start their job search. It makes sense since newspapers are a good place to find local openings. The classified ads, however, aren't quite what they used to be. The job opening section is filled with pyramid scheme ads and fewer and fewer real jobs run in these listings. Culling through them takes time, but can provide you an advantage over those who are not willing to do so.2. Online Classified AdsThe Internet has become a great source for finding job openings. It's free, easy and may be done from a library or the comfort of your home cumputer. The search features are fairly detailed on most online job sites. This allows you to narrow your search to find the job that is right for you without wasting time. Apply with the click of a button and save both time and money. It's a good idea to have your clean and updated resume posted on the larger job sites anyway, as corporate recruiters frequently scan qualified resumes and mass email candidates. You may get some unwanted spam this way, but that perfect job may fall into your lap with you having to do any legwork at all.On final note here: Some of the larger online employment resources pull job opportunities from a wide variety of sources both off-and-online. This maximizes the number of job matches that turn up from your search and minimizes the amount of time you spend checking in with several different job search sites.3. Local Employment Resource CompaniesVisiting an area or local employment office is a good idea when you are seeking a new job opportunity. They have resources to test your skill level, help build your resume, teach you new skills, offer valuable job training and provide tips and job placement.4. Window Shopping for Help Wanted SignsDepending on the type of job opening you are seeking, you may be able to find one just by driving through strip mall parking lots and past industrial parks looking for help wanted signs. Of course, this isn't going to work for all jobs, but being in the right spot at the right time may help you land a position with a great employer.5. Networking to Find a JobOne of the best ways to get your foot in the door with a new company or find out about new job opportunities is to network. Start by letting your friends and relatives know what you are looking for in a job. Branch out and talk to others about it as well. Keep your ears open all the time for job openings and be willing to share your job leads with others in the same boat. The bottom line is that an application that is received with a recommendation from a friend or current employee has a much stronger chance of getting the job than someone who blindly responds to a classified ad. Learn how to create a "buzz" around yourself much as marketers do around a new product. How you find employment resources and job openings is going to depend on the type of job you want. A high tech job, for example, isn't likely to place an ad in the local newspaper. Likewise, the corner store isn't going to waste their time placing an online ad for their job opening. Keep an open mind and use a variety of sources to locate job openings until you are successful.

How to Apply for Jobs

In today’s world applying for a job is relatively easy as compared to my time when you have to scan through the newspaper classifieds. Get your résumé typed and make photo copies of it. Then note down addresses of each job advertisement and apply individually be sending a snail mail. Last thing was to sit down and hope some day a interview letter will reach at your door step.
Now in twenty first century things have changed at rapid pace. The modes of applying for a job are many. Today you can apply for a job through a job sites, employer website, job forums, social media sites and of course through traditional method of newspaper and resource management offices.
Let’s look at what are the options available for applying the jobs. First let me give information on traditional way for applying for jobs.
In Person Application
This process you can do through two methods. One method is just drop-in at company door and handover your resume in envelope to receptionist or customer service person on front desk. Hope your resume reaches the human resource office. Next method is to be little prepared for in person application process. Go to company website and look for any job opening which are matching with your profile. Next call on company contact number and ask for appointment with human resource person. Once you have secured the appointment make it a note in your diary or add appointment in your outlook calendar. On appointment day ensure you reach your destination half hour early. Approach to front desk and give your reason of visit. During meeting with human resource officials present you in a professional manner. Things to hit hard are your recent experience and how it matches with the current opening and how you think you are valuable to company. In case no outcome comes from meeting ask for next meeting or when should you call the HR official.
Newspaper Classifieds
This one is really old method which still works for hiring potential employees. Get ready with color pen and magnifying glass. Don’t laugh some of the ads are so small that to read them in a crowded page you really need to focus and concentrate. Start zeroing on the interested positions and note them on a note pad. If you have computer I would advice to keep record of each company where you are going to apply. It helps to keep tab on your resume submission so that you don’t submit resume more than once. Create a cover letter which you intend to send with resume. The cover letter should be brief and give good information about you. Next stuff your resume and cover letter in envelope and label stamp on it. If you don’t here from companies send them a info requesting letter about your resume submitted for job. Sometime it works and you ight get call from company officials.
Job Consultants
These are individuals who are the interface between job seekers and the companies looking for the potential employees. These folks have contact with hiring manager and have first hand information of job openings in the companies. They will not charge you for any professional or job placement services. What they do is to match your resume with the job profiles. Once they find a suitable match they will submit resume to hiring manager. Next you go trough phone interview and in person interview. If you get selected they in turn will get professional fess for placement service.
The advantage in working with them is that you can list your choices such as what companies, which positions and the salary range etc. They kind of do pre-bargain for you with company hiring managers.
Let’s switch gears and see how to apply for jobs in 2009.
Job Sites
We are living in internet age. In this age for any information people go to internet for answers. The growth of internet has created opportunity for many businesses. One of them is job portals. The job websites are one point stop for job seekers and companies for looking talented staff to fill open vacancies. These job sites also provide free resume tools such as resume builder, tips for interview and tools to create coversheet. These websites are access point to hundreds of employers at one place. All you have to create your profile on their website with minimum information such as name, address, email address and contact number. After this you can browse their database for job openings. Some of the job portals let you keep your job submission history so that you don’t apply for job more then once. Not to mention this saves your postage and pain of mailing resumes to companies. The other advantages are cutting short for resume to reach hiring manager and turn around time is also fast.
Employer Web Sites
These days every company has presence on internet. This is also a good method of applying for jobs. Access their webpage on internet and go to “Careers” option on menu. Search for available jobs and see what matches with your profile. Some employer website allows you to just cut and paste your resume in web forms and provide a single point of submission. There is nothing wrong in following up with the company HR resource person about your resume. Remember you are not only person who is applying for the job.
Social Media Websites
Well internet space has become parallel to physical space. On earth we look for malls, restaurants, bars, parks to hang around with friends and collogue. Similarly on Internet there are many social websites which allow you to create your own personal pages and help in connecting with millions of socialites on website. You can add parameters in your profile page to whom you want to include in your friends list. You can expose your profile to many friends to many regions in world. All control is in your hand.
Now the question is how this helps to your job hunt. Many HR professionals are using these social websites to advertise job openings. Why, because these social websites don’t charge anything to users for classified ads. Now here s the free platform, millions of users and single bulletin board to get your message across. A Win-Win situation for everyone.

Job Search Mistakes Every Job Seeker Should Avoid

A job search is not an easy journey. There are many strategies that are needed to be followed to have a successful job search. Most people are not aware of the mistakes that they make during a job search. They often ignore the important strategies of a job search and thus are not rewarded with desired results. They are unsuccessful to get the right job that will act as a boom to their career.
A Harrison Barnes knows that most job seekers do not think about their overall career. They just simply approach the job search process as the means of getting the next job. They do not for once think how the job can be beneficial for a successful career. You have to decide it before you take the next step. You need to plan your moves and then take a step ahead. You have to first know the direction that you want to move in and then decide on the steps that you need to take to move in that very direction. If your steps are not planned then you will not achieve your dream.
You need to research the industry you want to work in, the organizations present in the market related to this industry, the salary that is offered for the post you are seeking the job for. After the research is completed you have to decide on the goals that you want to attain, the method you want to use to reach out to the potential employers, what will be your approach towards the job hunt, the qualities that separate you from the competitors. These all are needed to pen down and give a serious effort to evaluate the progress of your job search and also the actions that are needed to correct the hunting measures.
A Harrison Barnes, the owner of Hound.com mentions some basic mistakes made by the job hunters that are needed to avoid by them. By avoiding these mistakes you can have successful job search. You will land up with the job of your choice that too within a small span of time.
Resumes not Well Prepared
The most common mistake made by all the job seekers or hunters as understood by A Harrison Barnes is that their resumes are not well prepared. The resumes lack focus on accomplishments that have had in the past. A resume should be up to the mark for it is the one that gives the first impression about you to the employer. You need to remember that you are writing a resume and not any other document. Your acceptance for the call of an interview depends on the resume presented before the employer. You have to stand out of the crowd and this will differentiate you with the competitors of your field.
Your accomplishments, your qualifications, your experience (if any), your personal details, and the way you can benefit the company through your skills should be neatly and effectively mentioned. A Harrison Barnes’s Hound.com is one of the best in this field. They offer a lot of services to their clients. They not only offer access to most of the jobs in the market but also help their candidate prepare an eye catching resume. They analyze your needs and requirements and then provide you with suggestion of how to present your details in the best possible way.
Network Strategies often Neglected
Network is the most important tool of a job search believes A Harrison Barnes. You have to understand its importance and bring it in use. You have to keep in touch with your friends, your colleagues, your acquaintances and many other people whom you know. They can best help you in getting the job. Always remember that not all the jobs are posted on the job portals. There are many companies who hire people through references. So your network can help you reach to such employers without much difficulty.
The best thing you can do to get the perfect job for yourself is by registering with a good recruiting service in the business. Today, the best in the field is no other than Houdn.com. JOB PLACEMENT AFTER TRAINING

It's a familiar dilemma with any sort of professional training or education: How does one translate what they've learned into actual employment and experience in the field? When people talk about the "Catch-22" of employment and experience, it is precisely this that they are referring to. It can be a frustrating affair knowing that you are as qualified for employment as anybody else in the industry and yet being unable to procure steady employment.
While this problem exists even in the construction industry, we at the National Heavy Equipment Operators School take every possible step to assure you that you will not have to succumb to it. For starters, the training program at National is second to none; ours is a comprehensive two-part course that covers a wide variety of heavy equipment models and gives you the preparation and knowledge to operate them effectively. Additionally, National is the only accredited heavy equipment training facility in the United States. This means that a certificate of completion from National carries with it a certain weight; employers are familiar with and respectful of the heavy equipment training that National provides.
National is also intricately involved in the construction and heavy equipment industry, and thus we are able to assist our graduates in finding immediate employment far more effectively than other agencies or programs. Upon starting the resident portion of our heavy equipment-training program, students fill out pre-hire applications and have them distributed to their employers of choice while they are still training. Construction opportunities are abundant throughout the nation, from urban construction to rural highway renovation. National has ties to numerous companies and agencies across the United States, and we can help you find the best employment fit once you complete your training.
Once National helps you to get your foot in the door in the construction industry, you can rest assured that employment opportunities will be steady for the foreseeable future. Conservative estimates have the visible construction boom holding steady until at least 2012, and given the seemingly endless number of construction projects visible throughout any metropolitan or rural area, it is likely to persist for much longer. When you consider that heavy equipment operators accounted for roughly ten percent of the approximately 6.7 million construction-related jobs in 2002, the importance of adequate training and job placement becomes even more evident. The program at National Heavy Equipment Operators School is just what you need to assure you of your future financial stability.

KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER WHILE PERFORMING JOB ACTIVITY

Always make sure to Cross check Background: A common practice in hiring process is poor background checking. Many employers in order to fast track the hiring process in order to save time and get the position fulfilled as quickly as possible. Background cross check can avoid head aches, particularly for HR managers. For lower rank positions, simple identity checks can probably provide the necessary information required to avoid bad placement. Generally, the best way to perform a background check is to align the position’s needs and responsibilities to the investigative process. For example, if the position involves access to the company’s financial resources, the employer should conduct a financial background check. Some positions also require specific training, and failing to acknowledge this fact can incur in problems with legislation and, most likely, heavy fines. In the end, the process aims to check whether the candidate has a history related to the functions her/she will need to perform at the company.
Interview: The interviewing process is a good method of filtering best talent matching with required job, and used by almost all companies across the globe. A structured interview that reflects the position’s needs and company requirements commonly provides added value to the employer, and also plays an important role in the process of establishing good interpersonal communication links. As interviews are expensive processes (particularly when compared to testing), they should be as efficient as possible: so employers ought to ensure that the interview’s framework is well designed.
Make Sure To Test Candidate Through Psychometric Tests: Pre-employment testing is a common form of screening. Aptitude tests can provide valuable information regarding applicant’s personality traits, practical skills, intellectual ability and more. Conducting a psychometric test could have avoided the situation as the employer would have become aware of particular personality traits of the applicant prior to placement

10 Common Interview Questions and Answers

1. Tell me about yourself:
The most often asked question in interviews. You need to have a short statement prepared in your mind. Be careful that it does not sound rehearsed. Limit it to work-related items unless instructed otherwise. Talk about things you have done and jobs you have held that relate to the position you are interviewing for. Start with the item farthest back and work up to the present.
2. Why did you leave your last job?
Stay positive regardless of the circumstances. Never refer to a major problem with management and never speak ill of supervisors, co- workers or the organization. If you do, you will be the one looking bad. Keep smiling and talk about leaving for a positive reason such as an opportunity, a chance to do something special or other forward- looking reasons.
3. What experience do you have in this field?
Speak about specifics that relate to the position you are applying for. If you do not have specific experience, get as close as you can.4. Do you consider yourself successful.
4. Do you consider yourself successful?
You should always answer yes and briefly explain why. A good explanation is that you have set goals, and you have met some and are on track to achieve the others.
5. What do co-workers say about you?
Be prepared with a quote or two from co-workers. Either a specific statement or a paraphrase will work. Jill Clark, a co-worker at Smith Company, always said I was the hardest workers she had ever known. It is as powerful as Jill having said it at the interview herself.
6. What do you know about this organization?
This question is one reason to do some research on the organization before the interview. Find out where they have been and where they are going. What are the current issues and who are the major players?
7. What have you done to improve your knowledge in the last year?
Try to include improvement activities that relate to the job. A wide variety of activities can be mentioned as positive self-improvement. Have some good ones handy to mention.
8. Are you applying for other jobs?
Be honest but do not spend a lot of time in this area. Keep the focus on this job and what you can do for this organization. Anything else is a distraction.
9. Why do you want to work for this organization?
This may take some thought and certainly, should be based on the research you have done on the organization. Sincerity is extremely important here and will easily be sensed. Relate it to your long-term career goals.
10. Do you know anyone who works for us?
Be aware of the policy on relatives working for the organization. This can affect your answer even though they asked about friends not relatives. Be careful to mention a friend only if they are well thought of.

Interview tips

Interview Tip 1: Look the Part
Plan to dress professionally in conservative clothing with appropriate shoes, minimal jewelry, and perfume. Even if the office is casual, you should dress in business attire.
Interview Tip 2: Before the Interview
Bring a portfolio with extra copies of your resume, a list of references, and a notepad and pen. Use a breath mint before you enter the building. Leave the gadgets at home or turned off in your bag or briefcase.
Interview Tip 3: Arrive on Time
Arrive a few minutes early for your interview. If you're not sure where you're going get directions ahead of time (Mapquest or Google Maps) and do a trial run, so you know where you're going. When you arrive for your interview, greet the receptionist and let him or her know why you are there.
Interview Tip 4: Answer Questions Calmly
During the interview try to remain as calm as possible. Ask for clarification if you're not sure what's been asked and remember that it is perfectly acceptable to take a moment or two to frame your responses so you can be sure to fully answer the question.
Interview Tip 5: Ask Questions About the Job
Be prepared with questions of your own, because you will probably be asked if you have any at the end of the interview. Having questions will show that you've done your homework and are truly interested in the position.
Interview Tip 6: Follow Up
Ask your interviewer for a business card. That way, you'll have the correct spelling of names and job titles for your thank you notes and follow up calls. It's important to thank the interviewer for their time and to let them know that you look forward to hearing from them. Follow up by sending a thank you note to everyone you interviewed with.

Placement pays off
Nancy Marmolejo helps creative and entrepreneurial women hone in on their core strengths to turn ideas into action. She helps both the wildly creative and the mildly creative launch innovative ideas, enter new markets and build upon natural talents. She faced a common problem, getting targeted prospects to her web site.
Nancy had several articles that she had written which showcased her expertise. She determined that she could reach her target market of creative women and Latina business owners by placing her articles on web sites visited by her target market. Nancy used our Online Article Placement Program to reach this tightly targeted marketplace.
Within a couple months, her articles were appearing on web sites that reached her target market. The results were immediate and profitable.
"Getting my articles out on the web leveraged my visibility faster than anything I could've done on my own. It's had a viral effect, with more and more publications running the articles months after we first put them out there.
"One article was translated into another language, others have been requested by print magazines and other websites. My web traffic has increased, new people are contacting me, and the investment paid for itself quickly. I recommend Get Out the Word to anyone who wants their name out there but doesn't want to spend days and weeks demystifying the process."

Coming up with interesting article ideas is often a struggle, but there is no reason to strain your imagination or look for something completely novel.
Study your chosen publications, and determine the types of stories each of them seems to favor—then use them as starting points for your own ideas. Look for patterns, trends, and points of discussion.
• Save relevant news stories as launching points and ready-made research for your articles. • Gather publications that serve your target market, and look for ideas that relate to your business. • Look to your own experiences and those of your colleagues and clients—there's plenty of good material all around you. Few story ideas are truly original. • A new slant, an interesting angle, timeliness, and focus—these are enough to make a story publishable.

Work can be a double-edged sword, edged in both joy and sorrow. For most of us, the way we earn our money is tied closely to our identity, our individual triumphs and failures, and this is what author Alain de Botton wishes to express in his newest book, “The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work.”
Regardless of whether we are happy with our own occupations, we most likely have our own idea of which jobs are worthy or silly. However, de Botton’s aim is to point out the absurdity and also necessity, even beauty, of all jobs. Whether we are making rockets, typing away in an office, or delivering Thai food, all work is vital, not just as a means to pay our bills, but for the services we provide for others and even more for our own selves. Anyone interested in reading de Botton’s book may be interested in reading.

This story, featured on CNN Money shows how individuals like her were able to land jobs by reinventing and repositioning their personal brand, which is what Stepcase Lifehack suggests. She and other successful job seekers played the role of detective, consultant and salesperson: They demonstrated intimate understanding for the work, gave insight into their area of expertise, and created raving fans out of their potential superiors while doing so.
If anything, this proves the clichéd idea that the global crisis can be an opportunity for those who know how to take advantage of it. What we need to do is frame this crisis correctly, as John Baldoni writes at Harvard Business blog. He believes that organisations should use the crisis to make drastic changes not possible before. The crisis should also be used to spur individuals in the organisation to focus on personal leadership and ownership, and to engage them in the company’s long-term direction.
However, if employment is not your cup of tea, you will be delighted to know that the financial crisis could be the perfect time for entrepreneurship. The result of massive lay-offs means that companies have lost certain capabilities and competencies which may never be replaced. Hence, if you have a product or service that can solve problems for them, this could be the best time to build a viable business out of your expertise, as Peter Bregman says in CNN.
Reinventing yourself requires the courage to evolve and stand out to meet the new demands of your business, while retaining a strong sense of values, as the Slow Leadership blog Slow Leadership blog instructs. Believe in yourself and your abilities and you will show yourself to be indispensible wherever you are.

Anoop Chauhan PGDM III

The season right-sizing is just starting to cool off, but the stress at work to deliver results is not seeing any signs of abating. A recent study cited in CNN’s “How to Leave Work at the Office” claimed that more than 30% of workers take work home just to cope with the work load.
Indeed, there is a better way to achieve career success while “finding the right balance in life”, but you will need to decide to not succumb to the pressures of your work and take steps to rise above the situation.
To achieve this, you must first put an end to time-wasting activities. One of the best ways to do this is to hold more effective meetings. Both Seth Godin and Entrepreneur.com give solid advice for making meetings work: Get people to do their homework ahead of time, ban laptops and distracting devices, and remove all chairs in the conference rooms.
Another idea is to end the “busyness” mindset, characterised by plenty of motion without any clear results. Contrary to the intention of busyness, most people caught up in it usually end up with low energy levels and procrastinate at work.
An important thing to watch for, as Stepcase LifeHack warns, is physical and mental burnout. Prevent it early by learning new ways of doing old work and by remembering to give yourself a break.
After you eliminate these self-sabotaging behaviours, it is time to get better at what you do. Lifehacker shows us how to handle the information overload by batching tasks and using software to filter off non-important items from your attention.
Never forget your values and principles and always remember to pay attention to detail, says Stepcase Lifehack, while reviewing the ideas from a book based on Bear Bryant, famous coach and leader figure.
CNN tells us that work-life balance can be achieved by setting clear boundaries for work and home, and by organising and prioritising how your time is spent. The article – angled at parents but clearly applicable to all workers – also suggests forming a support group of people from similar backgrounds to help when challenges become insurmountable.

Why it's greatAt more and more companies, HR is no longer about benefits administration and the employee newsletter. Those tasks are increasingly outsourced, and directors and v.p.s are considered strategic planners. Even lower-level managers are expected to design employee programs that also benefit the bottom line. International HR and compliance are especially hot. There's a wide variety of work, from self-employed benefits specialists to corporate recruiters and HR generalists.

Every man who wants to develop his personality also wants to become popular. Man’s life is a burden without popularity. If we leave aside certain action, there is not much difference between a man and an animal. Everybody can be popular if he/you takes care of these few enlisted personality development tips-
If you want to progress in life than honestly analyze the traits of your character.
Do not laugh at people when they are in difficulty or trouble other wise you will loose your personality in a moment.
This is a great way to develop your personality by listening everyone politely, even if their ideas are baseless or not of your interest.
During conversation do not keep talking yourself too much.
When ever somebody brings any gift for you, don’t forget to praise it. It does not matter even if you were expecting something else.
Make other feel that you love them.
Keep your moral high in case of defeat and be more polite on being victorious.
Solve your problems in a creative way. Try your best not to let these spoil your relations with your friends.
Enlist your bad habits and try to get rid of them.
We should not uplift our standard of living but also help others to do so. Try to remove the feeling of inferiority in others by loving them and by keeping good behavior towards them.
Be careful of what your say about others because others will say the same thing about us at different times and at different places and in this way form a public opinion about us.
Some people often have a favorite sentence which they repeat frequently. We should try and get rid and get rid of such a habit.
Independence increases our good qualities and personality and slavery bad qualities.
Independent thinking and freedom to work is the only source of progress and welfare.
Love is the greatest magic in this world. You can do every thing with help of love. Develop this art to improve your personality.
Positive attitude is of great importance in our personality. No body like people who have narrowed out look. In life only that person is considered well behaved who has positive and healthy bend of mind.
The real beauty of man lies not in his physical appearance but in his work and good qualities. That is why it is important that we improve mental outlook to develop our personality.
Every individual should develop the ability to adjust with others, because basically man is a social animal, so one can not survive by living alone.
Some people keep repeating a particular statement and it becomes a part of their nature. At the most you may repeat a statement twice but it you do it more than that it leaves a bad impact.
Ask some Questions
There are immense possibilities within you to develop your personality with strong character. You must recognize and understand them. The key to success is hidden within you. The wealth you have earned is not important but what is important is the means you have adopted for acquiring that wealth. Your personality, your capabilities, your thoughts and your ideals are all very important in determining your character. We will discuss some essential components of personality Development in this article.
Be polite and speak sweetly:
Sweetly spoken words have their own advantage and it is a major component in developing our personality. Society gives respect to a person who has control over his speech and everybody wants to conserve with a person who is sweet spoken. That is why we should always try and inculcate sweet and soft spoken words in our speech.
All actions are controlled by tongue or speech. They originate from speech. So it is essential that speech is controlled by mind. A person who is not honest by speech is considered dishonest in all respects. The man who has not control over his speech can not be sure if he can exercise any control over his self while working. If a wrong thing is said in good style it also becomes effective. Then if you say a good thing in good way it has no comparison.
Keep away from lies, fraud and deception:
G.D. Broadman, a great western thinker said – sow a work and get a habit, sow a habit and get a character, sow a character and get a fortune.
It is evident that the fate of a person is formed by the work he dies, the branch of a tree bends in the direction it is diverted. If a person once entangles him self in lies and cunningness, then in spite of making countless efforts he can never get out of it and day by day he will keep moving toward downfall. We never improve our personality keeping these elements with in us or a part our habits.
Once a man resorts to lies for self gains and self protection then he gradually becomes an expert in telling lies. Lies, treachery, manipulation and fraud are such aspects of our personality which will lead to our failure, insult and defamation at every step of life. It is necessary that we get rid of these negative shortcomings with firm determination to get success in life. It is an admitted fact that bad ideas develop more rapidly as compared to good ideas. Therefore, we must try and keep ourselves away from all kinds of bad ideas and their impact. Believe in healthy competition:
The path of all success is filed with thorns. There is no hindrance in the path of downfall, but no sooner we lift the first step towards progress we start facing difficulties. Only those people who have immense courage and enthusiasm can advance on this path. Those who have moved forward have become immortal. These who cross all the barriers, all the pains, sufferings and sorrows are also able to taste the sweet fruits of success.
To achieve success it is necessary that all the energies of body, mind and wealth are utilized in one direction only. When a nab m avoiding all temptations in life works towards one definite foal, he is bound to get total victory. When all energies of mind and soul are concentrated for a particular work then all sources become available for completion of that particular work. The importance of positive attitude:
Positive attitude is of great importance in our personality. Many people, inspite of having sufficient talent and qualification, do not progress and succeeds in life because of their narrow outlook. Nobody likes people who have narrow outlook. In life only that person is considered will behave who have positive and health bend of mind.
The real beauty of a man lies not in his physical appearance but in his work and good qualities. The ability and achievements of a person are judged by his mentality. That is why it is important that we improve our mental outlook. By adopting positive outlook we can get rid of mental dissatisfaction. This change will help you to contribute a lot in making your relations better and sweet with people as well as your personality will bright all over as like the stars in the sky.Anger and irritation are your enemies:
To be angry is part of human nature. Probably there is no man in this world who has never been angry for some or the other reason. But some people are such who become temperamentally angry. People who get angry and irritated habitually do not realize that this habit of theirs will be a hindrance in path of their personality development and they will become their own enemies.Anger results in foolishness and insanity. There is a saying that hot temper is the main obstacle in completion of delicate genes of the body. Sometimes delicate tissues and veins even get burnt, outwardly we do not come to know that damage has been caused but we destroy many hidden treasures in our body in fire of anger.Spare time for social service:
If we want to be recognized in the society and want to reach the pinnacle of success, we should not keep out self aloof from society. Our deep feelings and responsibility towards society makes us good and responsible citizen of the society we live in. The more we work for society and the more we remain connected with it, the more famous we will become the fame will enhance our personality and enthusiasm. Always remember that society is ours. We need it. Live not only for yourself but for the society.
Develop your creative power:
Our creative streak and positive propensity can pay us dividends. One who is engaged in constructive activity of one or the other kind is always happy. All men should channelise their energies in creative work. Be it agriculture, physical labour, daily wager, craftsmanship, office work, domestic chores or social work. Breach in creativity is a breach in peace and happiness.Know the value of time:
Every moment of our life is a golden moment. The door of progress and development remain open for the person who knows to utilize and make best use of these moments. He not only pushes away all the failures and gets victory over all setbacks and obstacle but also becomes very popular in society dye to his punctual behavior. On the other hand worthless pursuits or pass these moments carelessly, face depression and disappointment on all sphere victims of vicious circle of failures.

The Delhi-headquartered bank intends to offer around 5 per cent each to institutional players such as the Life Insurance Corporation of India, General Insurance Corporation, Small Industries Development Bank of India (Sidbi) and UTI Asset Management Company, a bank executive familiar with the plans told Business Standard.
This follows the Reserve Bank of India's rejection of the bank's proposal to sell a 30 per cent stake to Sidbi.
